Diversity On Screen Audit Report of Canadian Broadcasters 2022

When Barb Lee, founder of the Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF), Racial Equity Screen Office (RESO) and Elimin8Hate approached me to design the Diversity on Screen Report, I understood the significance of this as a conversation starter. Lee initiated this multi-year study to explore two questions:
"Who are Canadians watching on their television screens?" and "How does this reflection impact diversity, equity and inclusivity in Canada?"
To share Lee's findings, the 40-page report emphasizes telling the stories of Asian actors who demand more representation on screen. It is achieved by using behind-the-screen photos of the Mighty Asian Moviemaking Marathon (MAMM) participants to connect real-life Asian Canadian talent with the report data to raise empathy, thus making the recommendations more personal and relatable.
Simple yet powerful infographics are used to showcase the findings, which highlight pain points and areas for improvement.
Focusing on storytelling, the report is easy to read. It is used to start conversations, dialogues and new strategies to invoke change.
